Yogathon New Zealand 2020

Yogathon New Zealand 2020 is Back in June

Call for Teachers and Participants

Namaste and Kia Ora.

The Yogathon NZ team wishes that this email finds you in good health and spirits as we start heading into a new normal in New Zealand.

As we adjust to a new normal in our lives, we can look to the valuable opportunities this time has presented us, particularly in terms of looking after our physical, mental, spiritual and emotional wellbeing.

On this note, we are pleased to inform you that the annual Yogathon NZ - Health for Humanity sun salutations event is returning to New Zealand this June from Saturday 13th until Saturday 27th.

There has never been a more appropriate time to talk about Health for Humanity and this event presents us with a unique opportunity to participate, as well as create a time where the essence of Yoga can be shared with as many New Zealanders as possible.

For our returning teachers, participants, schools and hosts, thank you so much for your continued support over the past 10 years. It is due to your contributions that this event has gained such momentum in our country.

For our new teachers, volunteers, schools, participants, hosts… WELCOME.

What is Yogathon

For the past 10 years, Yogathon has been creating awareness about Yoga and its benefits for health and wellbeing.

During the two-week event, individuals participate in performing Surya Namaskar (sun salutations), counting the number of the times they have performed a cycle of the sun salutation with the aim of collectively performing 108,000 repetitions as one New Zealand.

During the 2-week, Yogathon NZ organises free Yoga classes at participating Yoga studios, venues, etc. to introduce people of all abilities to yoga, providing a safe and comfortable environment in which to learn.

The Surya Namaskars can be done as groups or as individuals either at home, school, classes conducted by yoga teachers, public venues, work places or anywhere where there are willing participants.

Yogathon 2020

In addition to the ways Yogathon NZ has previously been conducted, in 2020, online classes will also be hosted. These will allow participants to learn about Yoga in the comfort of their own homes and in line with physical distancing guidelines as well.

Additionally, a 12-hour online Yogathon NZ mega event is also planned as a New Zealand-first event.

Request to Yoga Teachers, Organisations and Yoga Schools

There are multiple ways that you can contribute to Yogathon NZ 2020.

The Yogathon NZ team will be hosting 3 Yoga classes per day via Facebook live. These classes are not restricted to Hatha Yoga, but can be any form of Yoga that you specialise in across the wide spectrum of Yoga.

Please let us know if you are interested in hosting or pre-recording a session for us to be used on Facebook live. The dates for hosting of classes are 13th June to 27th June.

For the 12-hour mega event, we are also looking for multiple variations and schools of yoga, meditation, chanting, singing, laughter yoga or any form that you specialise in.  Please let us know if you would be interested in participating in this.

Further details and planning information can be discussed with interested participants.

Please let us know if you are interested by 7th June to enable our team to organise logistics with you.

The overall Yogathon NZ event attracts strong engagement from people all over New Zealand and we hope that your school/organisation can also benefit from the platform.

For further information on the event or any other questions, please feel free to get in touch with the Yogathon NZ team via the contact information given below.
